Announcing Association Summer Jam 2013

So hey all you Association Subculture blog readers....in the immortal words of Jeff Spicoli - hey bud, let's party!

Saturday, June 29th, 2013
Party Start Time: 1:00 PM Pacific/4:00 PM Eastern
Google+ Hangout Broadcast: 2:30 PM Pacific/5:30 PM Eastern
Topic: TBD

On Saturday, June 29th some friends and I are starting the Association Summer Jam and here is how it works (it's TOTALLY simple) -

We'd like to find party hosts to throw a bash at their house on June 29, 2013.  Could be a pizza party, dinner party, Beer and BBQ, potluck, pool party, low key yoga party - whatever floats your boats.  There are only two rules - it must be at your house (if you live in a condo, your rec room might work) and you must have a fast internet connection, a webcam and a Google+ account.

Party hosts need to invite other association professionals they know and like to come over and hang out with you (we have no rules about spouses and kids, they are welcome to tag along).  Because we are on different time zones, some parties will be earlier in the afternoon, and some later and all party hosts will work together to coordinate times.  In fact, the party hosts will have at least one and maybe two Google Hangouts where we all hammer out details and stuff before June.....

At one point during the party we will be asking folks to talk about a specific association topic (which the party hosts and I have yet to come up with).  At a pre-determined time all party hosts will logon to a special Google hangout where we will broadcast live, get to see each other's sites and share each sites main thoughts on the topic....

Then we log back off of Google and get back to drinkin'.....

I'm hosting a site in Sacramento, +Holly Duckworth in Denver, +Elizabeth Engel in Washington DC, +Vickie Lester and +Maria Nazario in Los Angeles, +Nina Buthee and Gina Ayllon in San Francisco,  Wendy Kavanagh in Atlanta and +Tom Morrison  in Jacksonville are also hosting...plus we have a special guest - +Robert Barnes who will be joining the conversation repping the great Australia.  Who else is in?  Email me at shelly@alcornassociates.com!  If we end up with more than ten party sites, we will split into two groups on Google Plus.

Association Summer Jam 2013 - Peeps kickin' it, brainstorming and going live with their bad selves....

  1. Can't wait. However, based on your video clip (above) I fear that Nickelback shall be played at our Sacramento Association Summer Jam. Please tell me that my fears are unfounded. :)

  2. I literally wondered who would be the first to bash on Nickelback and it was YOU! :D All right, how about some RHCP instead? LOL

About This Blog

This blog explores my interpretation of association management theory as seen through the lens of popular culture and media.

I am a media child whose Sundays were spent feverishly listening to Casey Kasem "countin' em down" and earnestly promoting my dubious babysitting skills to those neighborhood parents who had MTV. Star Wars was less a "movie" than a watershed event forever hooking me on cinema and imdb.com is my "Bartlett's" in terms of quotations. Required reading = Rolling Stone.

All of these loves/events/obsessions color how I see the world and how I see my work. I am betting I am not the only Executive Director who was listening to Ratt on the way to the interview (you know who you are, time to get out of the closet!). Yeah, association work is serious work and I've spent two decades immersed in it - but there is life outside of the board meeting so let's play with how they intersect.....Ready? Set? GO!
